Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ:
Psalm 55 verse 22 says to "cast your burden upon the Lord, and God will sustain you; God will never allow the righteous to be shaken." Like you, I have been watching the devastation caused by tornadoes to our brothers and sisters in Oklahoma. At this time, over 50 people have been found dead including nine children.
The faithful United Methodists of the California-Nevada Annual Conference have always responded in love to people all around the world. I encourage folks in our congregations to respond through the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) via the Advance (United Methodist designated giving channel). UMCOR guarantees that 100% of your donation goes directly to the disaster. The UMCOR Advance number for the Oklahoma disaster is #901670, "Disaster Response, United States."
You can donate online here or to make an immediate $10 donation, text the word RESPONSE to 80888.
To donate by check, make your check payable to Advance GCFA, add the Advance number on the memo line, and mail to: Advance GCFA, P.O. Box 9068, New York, NY 10087-9068. To donate by phone, call 1-888-252-6174.
Here is what the Oklahoma Conference is asking people to do.
As communities in Oklahoma, Texas, and other U.S. states reel from the devastation of tornadoes, remember, The United Methodist Church has a system in place for responding. Here are a few of the places and resources to check for information and find out how you can be part of our United Methodist relief efforts:

Remember to be prepared. Churches dealing with disasters
During this time of crisis, let us continue to be in prayer. Let us be reminded of a God who continues to sustain us.
Grace and Peace,
Warner H. Brown, Jr.
Resident Bishop

ACCEPTANCE by Emma Dessau 5/5/2013
As I sat down to write this talk, I struggled with a serious case of writers block. What can I possibly teach to a bunch of people who’ve been around a whole lot longer than have? ...
